The SAT is a mostly multiple-choice, standardized test widely used in college admissions. Developed by The College Board, and administered as many as seven times a year, it tests students in evidenced-based reading, writing, and math skills. The SAT is a well-established tenet of the standard college application, offering admissions officers a quantitative means of comparing students across a wide range of cultural backgrounds, geographical locations, and educational environments.

This course is an intensive seminar designed to prepare high-school students for the SAT. We'll take a rigorous look at each of the tests 5 sections—including the "optional"  essay section—and develop essential skills and strategies to best tackle the test.

COMPONENTS

Over the course of 12 sessions divided across 6 weeks, students will focus on the following skills and strategies:

  • Structure of the SAT

  • What the SAT does and does not test

  • Multiple-choice strategies, such as backsolving, plugging-in-numbers, and process of elimination

  • Reading and annotating for evidence

  • Writing mechanics and rhetoric

  • Math subtopics, such as number properties, algebra, data analysis, and others

Students will take, and receive detailed metrics on, three mock tests to measure growth, and also have a one-hour private consultation focusing solely on their own progress.

REQUIREMENTS

Participating students will require the following materials:

  • A fast and reliable internet connection (8 Mbps down, 1.5 Mbps up)

  • Access to printing

  • A dedicated notebook

  • Official SAT Study Guide 2020 Edition by the College Board

Beyond the materials, students are expected to complete all assignments by the given due dates and to the best of their ability, and to actively participate in class discussion. In short: give it your best!
