Essay Writing Course
Essay Writing Course
Personal writing for the college application, from brainstorming to a complete essay.
6 sessions over 6 weeks
Early Bird pricing ends June 6th.
The personal essay is unique amongst the college application’s many components in its singular ability to differentiate applicants. A lot of an application can come across as simply numbers, letter grades, and lists of achievements. The essay is the moment that you—the individual—have a chance to truly shine. To tell a story about your life, and to have that story be the gem that captures an admission officer’s eye.
This course is designed to take you from that initial stage of not knowing what you can possibly write about, or even how such an essay works, all the way to complete and revised drafts of the Common Application essay accepted by most colleges.
COMPONENTS
Over the course of 6 weeks, students will learn and develop the following fundamental skills:
How to seek and use feedback
Re-drafting
Final edits
Brainstorming
Researching yourself
Writing a first draft
We’ll take a deep examination at what college admissions officers look for in an essay, and use creative prompts, examples of past successful essays and their initial drafts, and weekly homework assignments in the drafting of your own essay. Each student will also receive a one-hour private consultation focusing solely on their own essay drafts.
